This year’s theme is The Western Shoppe Collective’s Winter Wonderland – a celebration of all things wintery and wonderful. Our goal is to create an unforgettable experience for everyone, leaving you with many great memories of a week well spent!

EVENTS

In line with our theme, we have a series of events lined up throughout the week that you are welcome to take part in:

SUNDAY 29TH JUNE – The Icebreaker Interprovincial Hobby Horse Relay

A fun way to ‘break the ice’ between competitors and provinces. Don’t forget to register on the KPC website – children and adults BOTH welcome!

VENUE: Peter Minnie Arena

PRICE: R50 per person

TIME: 4pm (after the dressage presentation)

SUITABLE FOR: All ages of competitors, friends AND adults.

TUESDAY 1st JULY – The Frosted Formal

A spectacular night of ice-inspired elegance, with dinner and a panel discussion with top Western Shoppe Ambassadors Nicole Horwood, Jeanne Korber, Dominey Alexander and Ronnie Healy. Parents are warmly invited to join.

VENUE: The ‘Snow Dome’ on the East Arena

PRICE: R500 per head to include dinner

TIME: 6:30pm

SUITABLE FOR: All ages of competitors, friends and parents/family members.

DRESS CODE: Smart casual with a little bit of frosting/sparkle (if you’re feeling it!)

WEDNESDAY 2ND JULY – ‘In the S(k)now’ Interprovincial Quiz Night

Put your knowledge (and team spirit) to the test at this midweek favourite. Register your team of six to eight people online.

VENUE: The ‘Snow Dome’ on the East Arena

PRICE: R50 per person

TIME: 6:30pm

SUITABLE FOR: All ages of competitors, friends and parents/family members.

THURSDAY 3RD JULY – Grooms’ Chill-Out Evening

A well-deserved evening of music and dinner for the grooms.

VENUE: The ‘Snow Dome’ on the East Arena

PRICE: R200 per head to include a full meal

TIME: 6:30pm

SUITABLE FOR: All grooms

TICKETS: Register on the website (see steps below)

FRIDAY 4TH JULY – The SnowBall

The ultimate Youth Champs party – bring the energy and dance the night away with us!

VENUE: The ‘Snow Dome’ on the East Arena

PRICE: R250 per head

TIME: 6:30pm

SUITABLE FOR: Competitors and friends of 10 years of age and up (or at parents’ discretion)

STEPS FOR SIGNING UP FOR EVENTS ON THE WEBSITE

Here are the steps to book your tickets for the events of Youth Champs. Please note: events are open for all competitors, as well as family and friends.

Step 1: Visit www.kyalamipark.com
Step 2: Click on the ‘Members’ tab
Step 3: If you are a KPC Member, log in using your profile details. If not simply register on the website (there is no charge for this and all that is required is a working email address).
Step 4: Once logged in, select the ‘Events Tickets’ tab. Select your tickets and buy them online.
Step 5: Join us at the event for lots of Winter Wonderland-themed fun!

STABLING

  • Grooms may not sleep in the stables. Please arrange suitable accommodation such as a tent or horsebox.
  • Cooking is permitted only in the designated braai area.
  • No gas fires or heaters are allowed near the stable area.
  • Extension cords must be in safe, working condition. Unsafe connections will be removed.
  • Grooms are asked to help keep ablution facilities clean. Theft of fittings (shower heads, curtains, taps) will not be tolerated and please turn off taps after use.
  • Shavings are available for purchase at R40/bag via the Show Office. Collection is at the gazebo outside Row A.
  • All manure must go into the skip provided – no rubbish in the manure skip please! Used shavings must not be left in bags outside the stables.
  • Fire hoses are for emergencies only – tampering is a criminal offence.
  • Wash bays are provided. You may also use the Western Shoppe ‘Wash & Demo’ Bay near the horse walkway.
  • Do not move your horse to a different stable without written permission from the Stable Manager – unauthorised moves may lead to elimination.
  • Night emergencies:
    • The Dahlia Road gate is staffed from 18:00 to 06:00.
    • The Horse Head gate has overnight access for emergencies.
    • No entry via Lipizzaner Road after 17:00 (exit only).
    • Trucks/horseboxes are never permitted via Lipizzaner Road.

PADDOCKS AND PARKING

  • No paddocks may be erected – horses must be hand-walked.
  • Lunging rings (at the stables and Horse Head gate) are for lunging only.
  • Creating an ‘encampment’ with vehicles to ‘reserve space’ is prohibited.
  • Please park considerately and follow directions from parking guards – they are there to help.

TROT-UPS

Required only for Open and Open Team horses:

  • Saturday 28 June (8:00–9:30) – Dressage & Equitation
  • Wednesday 2 July (8:00–9:30) – Showjumping & Showing

Both will take place at the Stubbs Warm-Up Arena. Times may change, please check WhatsApp updates (see above for WhatsApp Group link).

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS

Please ensure passports are up to date before arriving, i.e.,:

  • ID page completed, signed and stamped by the vet and SAEF.
  • AHS vaccinations (both done in 2024, at least 3 weeks apart).
  • Equine influenza vaccinations must meet the following protocol:
    • 1st vaccine: Day 0
    • 2nd: Between Day 21–60
    • 3rd: Within 6 months + 21 days of the second

Contact your vet if you are unsure about any of the requirements.

Numbers and vests: Collect from the Show Office at Bob Charter Arena.

    • You can keep your showing numbers as a memento.
    • Equitation vests must be returned after your class.

Prize-Givings: Attendance is compulsory. This is a sponsored national event – please plan accordingly.
